Samsung S3-based Camera in the works, so says rumor

Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the most powerful and beautiful Android smartphones out on the market today, and yet what if the camera could be even better? Apparently, a new rumor has started suggesting that Samsung might be doing just that with an upcoming Samsung Galaxy S Camera.

The rumor started from a tipster reporting to GSMarena, so take it all with a pretty large grain of salt. The camera is supposedly built on the existing S3 design and features a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen, Android ICS, and an impressive 16MP sensor.
The tipster also mentions that it is about double the thickness of the standard S3, with a 10x zoom and pop-out Xenon flash.

Keep in mind that this is just a camera and media player though, not a full-fledged smartphone. The Galaxy S3-based camera is rumored to come in WIFI and 3G + WIFI versions, and maybe even be available through select carriers at a subsidized price.

While this all sounds interesting enough, it’s hard to say whether Samsung would do something like this or not. With Nikon bringing out its own Android smartcamera, perhaps now is the perfect time to introduce a Galaxy S3-based camera. If it is coming anytime soon, odds are we might here more about it at the upcoming IFA event.
