ICS updates finally hit I9100 and I9100G Galaxy S II in India

Most of the Galaxy S II users out there have been enjoying their due ICS serving for a while now, but those unlucky ones living in India were still waiting. Well today this finally changed as both versions of the smartphone available in the the country started receiving the ICS updates.

According to numerous user reports we received, both the Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II (based on the home-brewed Exynos SoC) and the Samsung 9100G Galaxy S II (running atop a TI OMAP 4430 SoC) are now getting notifications to apply the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

The update can be applied over the air, but it's many MB worth of download so you better use a Wi-Fi network for the purpose. Alternately, you can hook up your smartphone to Kies and download the update using your computer's internet connection.

LG Optimus LTE, Vu, and LTE Tag will get the ICS treament in June

June is bound to be a good month for the owners of LG Optimus LTE, Optimus Vu, and Optimus LTE Tag. The Korean giant has announced that it will kick off the update of the smartphone trio to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on June 4, which is less than a week away.

Quite expectedly, the ICS update will include LG's latest version 3.0 of its proprietary UI. You are welcome to get a sneak peak of it in our hands-on of LG Optimus L7 over here.

Compared to its siblings, the LG Optimus Vu will get some additional software tricks utilizing its 4:3 aspect display.

MWC 2012: Samsung overview

There was no Galaxy S III from Samsung, contrary to expectations, but they did show a new phone - the Samsung Galaxy Beam, with (you guessed it) a built-in projector. It shared the spotlight with two 10.1-inch tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Tab 2 10.1.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 brings Samsung's S Pen stylus where it belongs - a big screen. We've no talent for painting whatsoever, but couldn't wait to try and sketch something on the Android version of Photoshop Touch.

The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 should be a more affordable tablet (though pricing isn't revealed yet), with specs comparable to those of the original Tab 10.1. The Tab 2, however, tops the old version with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and records FullHD video.

Samsung's earlier attempts to combine a phone and a portable microprojector fizzled out, but they're at it again. The Samsung Galaxy Beam is a fairly standard dual-core droid, with the notable exception of the nHD projector. It can project an image with a 50" diagonal.

MWC 2012: HTC overview

The HTC press conference pulled the curtain off what had been keeping the Taiwanese busy, and they certainly got the audience impressed. HTC unveiled their new One series of smartphones, all four of which have Beats audio and feature enhanced video and photo capabilities.

We also caught wind of an upcoming release of HTC's Sense 4.0 UI, which holds some neat improvements over the previous version.

HTC is also keen to give certain incentives to encourage consumers to buy more of the upcoming devices, including free Dropbox cloud storage of up to 25 GB over two years within purchase.

White Samsung Galaxy Note hits UK stores in three days

We first saw the Galaxy Note in white in South Korea and were secretly hoping for it to become available in Europe as well. So, if you've been patiently waiting for a white version of the Samsung Galaxy Note now is your time to rejoice.

UK store John Lewis will be the first to offer the white Galaxy Note on January 23 with other major retailers joining in the fun later. Some of them include Clove.co.uk and Play.com

Feedair Friend puts notifications in the red

Feedair has launched the Feedair Friend digital ticker display with Wi-Fi connectivity and LED display.
The small, aluminium-bodied device is USB-powered and sits neatly on a desktop, ready to provide updates from your digital world.

Its 147 dot matrix LED display could be just the thing to separate out the important notifications in your life, or maybe just add another information channel vying for your attention.

The data it displays is controlled via an app for iOS and Android phones. With this app you can manage what Feedair calls vidgets (visual widgets) via the Feedair Vidget Bar which sorts messages into 20 different categories including social networking and financial services.

Tweets, direct emails and calendar alerts can also be displayed, though we're not sure reading a whole email on a one line display is our idea of fun.

"Digital distractions and overload are common among CE enthusiasts, so we set out to simplify and organize media updates in an at-a-glance, cohesive manner," said Feedair founder Simon Milner.

It's speech bubble form factor is certainly cute, and with Feedair actively developing its range of widgets some new and interesting ways of receiving everyday information could be just around the corner.

The Feedair Friend comes in a blue, silver, black or pink and will be on sale from Feedair's websitein March for around US$50.
