There are many stories that seem like obvious candidates for getting the 8-bit role-playing game treatment, but "Breaking Bad" wouldn't have been at the top of my list. But the good folks at College Humor have taken that hit AMC show and boiled its four seasons down into a fantastic video, old-school RPG style.
It's hard to summarize. Let's just say that in the first scene, we see our troubled main character, Walter, sitting in his doctor's office, being told that he has cancer--and that the medical bills are going to blow way past what he's got in the bank. His choices--as presented in a nice little dialog box:
If you've seen the show, you know where this is going. Perhaps another clue that the video's creators approached their task with just the right amount of humor and cynicism comes even before Walter's tough choice. The video opens with the player's choice. "Choose your side," it says. Under "Good," there are no available choices. Ditto for "Bad." Switch over to "Morally ambiguous," though, and the name of every major character from the show appears.
From there, it's just one clever take after another, with scenes broken down by "Breaking Bad" season. It's too bad this is just a video, and not an actual game. I think there's a whole lot of people out there who would sign up pronto to visit the ABQ, Atari 2600 style.
As BuzzFeed put it, "This is amazing. If you've seen 'Breaking Bad' you have to see this immediately. If you haven't, go watch 'Breaking Bad,' then come back. I'll wait."
